Selecting a stand location is very simple at Ocmulgee Banks! A detailed hunting location map (click here to view larger map image) has been created based on 1/8 mile grids. The Woods and Associates, Inc. team have used this system very successfully on other projects to assist in stand selection and data collection. Hunters simply select a grid each morning, and again each afternoon based on a first come, first choice system. There are more than 250 such grids at Ocmulgee Banks - more locations than days in three deer seasons!

This allows each hunter equal opportunity every day to select any location. An additional benefit is increased hunter safety. The recording of observation and harvest data for each hunt by grid location will contribute to a detailed data analysis that is extremely valuable for managing the wildlife resources.

This grid system has been proven through use at multiple hunting properties and used successfully on past research projects. A recent article that explains the advantages of this system was published in Quality Whitetails.
